I attended a conference at Hokkaido University in Sapporo. This is a park at the University.
We visited the town of Furano on our way to Tokachi-Dake volcano.
Furano is a farming town that grows lavender and flowers in an effort to draw tourists to the area.
We ate tons of good food. Here we at a traditional Japanese dinner setting.
At a party for the conference attendees we drank sake out of cedar boxes.
A flower with dew.
At the summit of Tokachi Dake, it was hot even though the summit was shrouded in clouds.
After our hike at to the summit, we soaked in a hot springs, then attended a barbaque.

We stayed at Lake Akan and visited some volcanoes in the area.
We did do some geology. Nakagawasan (right) led the field class.

A group photo of the group I traveled with. In the fumorals behind us the locals cooked eggs to sell to the tourists.
Another barbaque. We ate the best beef I've ever had.
The lake shore was lined with hotsprings.
We visited Usu volcano and the site of an eruption in 2000.
