STEEP Google Earth Files
Some files related to the STEEProject that can be displayed using Google Earth.
alaska_faults was created by converting an ancient GMT file that the UAF-GI seismology and geodesy groups have been using for at least 10 yrs. I do not know the original source other than "someone digitized something". It would be really nice to know what map was the source of this file; please email me if you know.
steep_gps shows the locations of GPS benchmarks used in the geodesy component of STEEP.
aeic_broadband shows the locations of AEIC broadband seismic stations, many of which have been established as part of STEEP. The project affiliation for each station is listed in the attributes. Data were taken from this link.
lake_atna_shorelines is a crude guess at the extent of Glacial Lake Atna, which was formed in the last glacial maximum when the Copper River was dammed by glaciers in the Chugach Mountains. The lines shown are simple contour lines of elevation at 2300 ft (730 m). More info can be found at this link. Preliminary calculations suggest this lake had a surface area of 14000 square km and contained approximately 2220 cubic km of water. This was a significant surface load on the crust, and isostatic adjustment (rebound) calculations are pending.
