On Oct 10th, Paul Claus and I flew a laser altimeter profile of the surging Tweedsmuir. The surge has developed dramatically since early Sept, and is now within a few hundred meters of the the Alsek River just above Turnback Canyon. Surge behavior is somewhat unpredictable, and  whether or not the glacier may reach the river is unclear. But, it is definitely worth keeping a close eye on it at this stage.
